Weather in Summer

What is the weather like in June, July, and August in New York? Does it getting pretty hot in late July and August? I%26#39;m thinking early June may be more pleasant. Thnaks

Weather in Summer

June can be hot, but it%26#39;s a lot more pleasant than July or August.

Well....I shouldn%26#39;t put it that way. We have some diehard midsummer fans around here!

I will tell you that July and August can be very humid, and often smoggy.

Weather in Summer

Early June would be a better time to visit.

Early June will almost certainly be more pleasant. What makes NYC so tough in the dog days of summer isn%26#39;t the heat. It%26#39;s not even the humidity. It%26#39;s the pavement and the people. The concrete from the streets and the buildings radiates additional heat into the atmosphere. Combine that with hot exhaust blowing out of the millions of air conditioning units throughout the city plus millions of people brushing against each other on the sidewalks and it can get quite uncomfortable. And don%26#39;t even get me started on the subways! If it%26#39;s 90 degrees on the ground it is easily 100+ undergroud. It%26#39;s not so bad on a normal summer day, but if you happen to hit a heat wave it could be very unpleasant. Not to be gross, but it%26#39;s a good idea to bring some Balmex with you if you are subject to chafing after doing a lot of summer walking.

June would be your best bet.

We went in July last year and while hot, it was bearable...that is until you enter the subway!

August, it is frequently said here, is the hottest and the most humid.

But there is a bonus with the hottest days of the summer...most of the locals are gone (most to The Hamptons) so you have a BIT quieter streets. Also, some great hotel deals are available during the summer!

When people talk of the heat in the subway--understand the subway cars ARE air conditioned. It is the platforms which can be reminiscent of ovens.

I%26#39;ve been in June. Can be easy summer in the morning, humid summer with a dump of big rain in the evening, and cool nights. Very mixed weather. If you%26#39;re ok with a few umbrella walks, June is a great time to visit.

June - not usually that hot.

July - a bit hotter

August - usually hottest.

All of the above depend on the weather on any particular day which changes from day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year.

So, as has been mentioned on this site - it is impossible to predict the weather with any accuracy months, weeks or even days in advance. It is what it is - and one must live with that.
