Wedding reception/restaurant recommendation

We are getting married in Central Park this August and wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere romantic/scenic to go for the reception afterwards.

I say reception, but there will only be 6-8 of us and most private dining rooms cater for much larger groups.

We are looking for either italian or traditional american cuisine, somewhere not too formal where we can have a really delicious meal and a few drinks afterwards. Excellent service is a must.

No budget set but around 拢100-拢250 USD per head.

The River Cafe has been mentioned alot, but the private terrace is for much larger groups. Do they have anywhere for smaller groups, or would we be okay in the main dining hall?

If you had to choose between Gramercy Tavern, River Cafe or The Rainbow Grill which would you choose?

Thanks

What day of week/time of day will the ceremony be and what time are you thinking for the meal? Do you feel you have to have a private room/area b/c that will really limit your options. There are not many places with private space for such a small group. Also, you say you want something not too formal yet a private dining room sounds formal to me.

Would you consider a boat cruise? Bateauxnewyork.com gets very good reviews and I%26#39;m sure you could get a table for 8 whether for a lunch or dinner. They have live music and dancing.

Rainbow Grill food is not all that. Gramercy Tavern has excellent food but no view. River Cafe has very good food and awesome views.

The Boat House in Central Park is another option you haven%26#39;t mentioned. Lovely setting, gondola in summer starting at 5 pm.

The ceremony is at 4.00pm so will be heading to restaurant around 5ish. Would like to have a champagne toast before dinner at around 6.

It doesn%26#39;t have to be a private room but would prefer a table in the corner, or somewhere a little more secluded.

Hadn%26#39;t thought about a boat cruise but that could be a good option so I will definately have to look into that.

Will also look into the boathouse as the proximaty to the ceremony would be fantastic.

Thank you for the heads up on the restaurants we were looking at!

NYC has so many fantastic options it%26#39;s just deciding which to choose!!

Some other couples have done drinks at the Boat House (and perhaps a gondola ride) followed by dinner somewhere else (River Cafe?)

There are some excellent restaurants in the Time Warner building which is at the southwest corner of Central Park (at Columbus Circle) that you might also want to consider. Asiate is wonderful in the Mandarin Oriental (35th floor of TW building) although neither Italian or American. It has a lovely view as well as very good food.

Here are the other options
