any last minute tips?

Hi Forum,

My boyfriend and I leave early thurs Morning and I%26#39;m so excited! I%26#39;ve reserached and planned as much as possible but just wanted to ask you all....is there anything you learnt or any tips you can pass on that you discovered while in NYC that you wish you knew before you got there?

Thank you

any last minute tips?

Hi

Just got back from a 4 day trip(first time),very busy fast place.

Take your comfiest pair of shoes as you will be doing lots and lots and lots! of walking, dont worry about clothes as it seems to be very casual.

Saturday night seems to be very busy, busy all the time really day and night.(you may be use to the fast pace lving in London.

Hard Rcok cafe was excellent food(you will find that easy enough in Times Square, reasonalbe prices),and i would reccommend the party shuttle bus tour(which we booked prior)there are people selling city tours on the streets,so dont worry too much about booking, but i would reccomend a tour.that way you get too see alot more.Ground zero(9/11),central park etc without the hassle of trying to find it your self.

Top of the Rock(rockerfeller centre)is a must!,we went first night about 5.30pm and we seen the city as dusk fell,brill.$17 拢9 well worth every penny.

take a spare suit case as you will be buying lots of trainers and clothes if you are a shopper.Bloomingdales 9 floors right at the top of 5th avenue, turn right about 3/4 blocks in from central park(avenues are very long, comfy shoes!)Macy%26#39;s 7 floors 34/35th steet not as far as blooms(really good prices, they are department stores.

Everything we have bought, trainers, timberlands, make up,t shirts, kids shoes all half the price(dont forget to ask for uk size%26#39;s which they are generally labeled in shoes, clothes seem to S/M/L/XL rather than numbers.

have a great time and dont forget your scarf and gloves as it is cold.

If you are a shopper take reserve cash supply(credit card or more cash available x 拢1.50 charge with my bank for every transaction,so probably best taking out of cash machine.check with your bank.

Thanks so much - just the sort or reply I was after! Glad you ahd a fab time - hope i do too!

Thanks again!

I%26#39;m with loulou regarding the proper shoes! The first time we went, in our most comfortable sneakers (or so we thought! LOL), we all had blisters.

The second time we went, we decided to forego being fashionable and looking good -so we wore crocs most of the time - best thing we ever did! So make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes!

Also, I think one of the other important things we learned was to relax! There%26#39;s so much to do and see in NYC and there%26#39;s never enough time, no matter how well you try and plan. There are distractions everywhere and following schedules didn%26#39;t work for us.

So the second time we went, we had no set itinerary -just an idea of what we wanted to see and no pressure to do everything. We just enjoyed every new discovery and soaked in the beauty of NYC.

Have fun and take the time to enjoy!

Great advice here. I%26#39;ll keep this in mind for my trip in April

Another mention of good walking shoes--and some advice--be sure to test your walking shoes while you%26#39;re still at home. Take a long walk in them and see how your feet feel. I%26#39;ve found that some shoes are fine for short walks but not long ones and the only way to find this out is to take that long walk. Last time we were in NYC, my husband ended up with a blister on his foot because he didn%26#39;t take this advice. He spent money on what he thought would be a good pair of walking shoes but didn%26#39;t take a long walk in them before we left home.

Also, this forum is valuable when it comes to good restaurant suggestions. If you like certain types of food and want some good recommendations, let the posters know. It%26#39;s a good way to find great places to eat!

I%26#39;m loathe to bring this up, but here%26#39;s another ';tip'; - make sure you get small dollar bills ($1 and $5) so you can indeed tip.

QB - I thought you were the peacekeeper in here! LOL

By the way good tip re the small bills. I just wonder why to some of us that would be common sense (and an actual part of my packing/preparation ritual), while others would need to be reminded!
