Looking for affordable accommodation for Nov in NY

Hi people!

We are currently planning our trip to New York in November 2008. We had family lined up to stay with, but have now heard that there is a chance that they will no longer be in NY when we get there.

So, we are starting to look at a fall-back plan. We are looking for some affordable, central accommodation. We would like to stay as central as possible, without totally blowing our budget of course!

I have been reading some of the reviews on here, and they arent exactly favourable of the lower-priced end of places to stay in Manhattan (you get what you pay for!) so I guess I am just wondering if anyone knows of any %26#39;gems%26#39; which are both affordable, central as well as of a decent standard! We just need a room that is clean, SAFE, and bug-free. We dont care about the size or decor etc.
