From NY to Niagarra

Hello all, wanted to ask you some questions about my trip. I will be in NY @ 13.march, and @ 17.march we will drive to Niagara, so wanted to ask you all, what i can see when i drive to Niagara, some near places, something really good and nice. I know what i can see in NY, so now trying to get information what i can see on road. Sorry for my bad English :D

From NY to Niagarra

This is a very long drive (7+ hrs.) If you%26#39;re only here for 4 days, you would be much better to fly! You can fly from NYC to Buffalo, NY in just over an hour and take a tour bus or taxi from Buffalo airport to Niagara Falls. If you want to see plane fare and info, go to kayak.com and look for flights b/w New York, NY and Buffalo, NY.

You should know the best views are from the Canadian side and you should check to see whether you would be allowed to come back to the US without a special visa if you cross the border.

If you still want to drive, the Finger Lakes area is very pretty. Cornell University in Ithaca is on Lake Cayuka and a nice place to see. There are also some wineries in the Finger Lakes area. Skaneateles is a pretty town on a lake although won%26#39;t be that pretty at this time of year. The Corning Glass factory in Corning, NY is a popular stop if you%26#39;d like to see glass blowing.

Mapquest.com or Maps.google.com will help you plot your trip.

From NY to Niagarra

Definitely check re Visa issues, most of Niagara Falls is on the Canadian side.

I like going to Toronto after Niagara Falls. I usually don%26#39;t stop along the way because it%26#39;s such a long drive.

Niagara Falls is not close to New York City. You do understand that to drive from New York City to Niagara Falls is a longer trip than it is to drive from Riga in Latvia to Lodz or Lublin in Poland?

I will be in USA from 13. to 31. Only in new york i will be that 4 days ;)

For the short period of time you are in NY I would recommend that you not try and visit Niagara Falls, especially driving, as it will take the better part of a day round trip.

Hope this helps.

Labdien!

OK, I%26#39;ve got nothing to add to your question. But how often to I get a chance to use Latvian? :-)

If you are in NYC for only four days, two of those days will be on this Niagara Falls Journey!

While it is possible to do in one day (YAWN) you would be exhausted from the experience.

Say you get up and leave the city at 6 am. By the time you get to the Falls (and NO there is nothing special to see along the way) It will be around 2pm.

Since the sunsets around 6pm, you will have around 4 hours in the city.

At this time of the year, it is FREEZING and you won%26#39;t want to leave your car at all! We are driving back to Buffalo on Friday, then onto Toronto on Saturday for a BDay weekend celebration and looking at www.weather.com, it will be VERY cold and snowy the entire weekend. If you have not experienced this type of snow storm and cold, it is not something you want to go through!!

Now, you can get back on the road and be back in NYC around 1 - 3 am.

I strongly advise not to make this trip at this time of year! There are so many things to do in NYC I don%26#39;t understand why you would put yourself in this position and exhaust yourself!

J-A-W-P - Labdien ;) You know Latvian Language?

Well, if you are on the way to Toronto and want to stop in to see The Falls, then by all means do it! If you do start off early in the day, you can see it all in a few hours and still make the remainder of the drive to Toronto (2 hours from Buffalo/NF)...it will just be a long day!!

Toronto is a beautiful city and there is plenty to see and do. There there is a forum here on TA for Toronto and you can read there to see what interests you.

As far as ';Indian towns....'; these places are called reservations and they are no different than any other small towns in Western New York State. I expect you want to see Native Americans in their tribal dress and some ceremonies?

There is one held in July for the areas Native American population...very nice to see as the culture is a beautiful one indeed. Any other time, they live just like any other American!
