vintage clothes stores??

For the life of me I can%26#39;t remember the name of it and I walk past it every day - something like Jack%26#39;s, or Crazy Jack%26#39;s...anyway, there%26#39;s a big one on the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 31st Street.

They have cool (but costly) stiff at Cheapjack%26#39;s. There%26#39;s a location On 5th Avenue @31st Street, and I believe they still have one on Broadway, just south of 14th Street (Union Square).

I bought a nice blazer there and found, in the pocket, a card/place setting type of thing from a wedding that took place in Queens in 1965. Even includes a photo of the Bride and Groom. Apparently the only place that garment was ever worn, before I wore it to the Halloween parade two years ago!

mursy: you need to decide whether you are interested in designer vintage (like Armani from five years ago) or clothes from the 30%26#39;s, 40%26#39;s and 50%26#39;s....If you want high end designer, Encore at 84th and Madison is a good bet; another high end place, especially for gowns is across from Bloomies at the northeast corner of 60th St on the 2nd floor; if you want old fun vintage stuff, then Cheap Jacks is a good place; there are also places all around the East Village....several are on 10th between 1st Ave and Ave A near the park; you might also like to try some of our better thrift shops since they get vintage all of the time....for example, one neighborhood that has several is East 23rd Street....there is a Housing Works branch at 23rd just west of Third, there is a City Opera Thrift Shop on 23rd between Third and Second, on the south side, and then on Third itself between 23rd and 22nd is another Thrift that often has vintage shoes, suits etc....a lot of stuff from the 40%26#39;s and 50%26#39;s...have fun!

Family Jewels on 23rd street between 5/6th Ave has tons of stuff but it is pricey. I think Screaming Mimi%26#39;s is still on Lafayette and E. 4th street. There also is Resurrection on Mott or Elizabeth Street in NoLIta (below Houston Street but before Spring Street). Also there is Second Time Around on West Broadway between Broom and Spring.

Welcome to the forum.

FYI, vintage clothes prices have skyrocketed in recent years. Difficult to find those $3.00 bargains.

Beacon%26#39;s Closet (2 locations in Brooklyn) is one of the best places. If you%26#39;re a vintage fan, it%26#39;s worth the trip.

Scroll down for subway directions.

I%26#39;ve always like Alice Underground...I hope it%26#39;s still there. West Broadway between Broome and Grand.

QB is right about Beacon%26#39;s Closet in Williamsburg ..... the store is huge. There%26#39;s also another place called %26#39;Buffalo Exchange%26#39; (it%26#39;s a national chain) right near %26#39;Beacon%26#39;s Closet%26#39; on Driggs and N. 9th Street that has both %26#39;new%26#39; and %26#39;vintage%26#39; clothes. www.buffaloexchange.com/locations.php鈥?/a>

You know there is also a Salvation Army store right at the Williamsburg Bedford Ave ';L'; train station exit corner of N. 7th %26amp; Bedford Ave. Though I%26#39;m not 100% sure of the difference between %26#39;vintage%26#39; and simply %26#39;used%26#39; clothes. It might just be that the vintage is actually dry cleaned and the used stuff is a bit more scuzzy. I%26#39;m also not sure why some people would want to wear someone else%26#39;s $9 stinky old stenciled t-shirt. But I guess I%26#39;m not all that %26#39;hip%26#39;.

Lots of different places on these older posts.
