Hotel for seeing the tourist sights?

My wife and I are going to NYC this June for the first time. We%26#39;ll be in NYC for four days. We%26#39;re going to a couple of Yankee games. We%26#39;d like to know of a hotel that would serve as a good headquarters to see the typical tourist sights: Times Square, The Today Show, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc.

It%26#39;s really a matter of your budget, how adventurous you are, and whether you like the familiar or the unusual. your age might be a factor, too- some hotels cater to the young and/or trendy, and others are for people who want a slight walk on the wild side.

Most people stay in Manhattan their entire visit, or most of it. Therefore, as long as you hotel is in Manhattan you should be fine, because even though NYC is ginormous, we have a subway and bus system that makes everything seem pretty close. A hotel in lower Manhattan, for example, might be cheaper than on near Times Square, but only be 10-15 minutes from that area.

The Statue of Liberty is at the base of the island of Manhattan. The Empire State Building ins near lower Midtown, at 34th Street. Times Square is in the solid section of Midtown, at 42nd Street, and a stone%26#39;s throw from Rockefeller Center at 50th Street, where the Today Show is filmed. Yankee Stadium is in the Bronx, and is a bit of a ride on the subway.

If you stay in the Times Square area, you%26#39;ll get to see many of the things you see at home, including lots of Americans from other parts of the US. Everything will be fairly familiar. however, if you hope to meet New Yorkers or talk to people from other parts of the world, staying in a Times Square hotel might not be your best bet.

Great info. Any reccomendations for Times Square Hotels. We are 50ish and don;t mind some walking.

Wally, have you looked at the ';Hotels and Accommodations'; link on the lefthand side of the screen? You can sort by area, read reviews, and see average prices. (You can also put in your exact dates and TA will run a crawler across several different hotel search engines to find availability and rates.)

There are so many hotels in the Times Square area! It depends on your budget, whether you prefer highrises with great views, smaller and cosier, etc..If you can be more specific, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get recommendations.

I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get other ideas, but our experience was at the Millenium Broadway and we loved it so much, we%26#39;ll be going back for the third time (since August) at the end of May. It%26#39;s just off of Times Square on W44th. We love the views (we stayed both times on the 50th floor), size of the room, the comfortable bed, the cleanliness, and the staff.

Good luck!
