NYC airport - hotel transport

Hi all,

(so sorry if this is a long question!)

I%26#39;ve been reading alot in this forum about using taxis vs. airport shuttles vs. private car services when needing transport to and from the airport, and i thought I%26#39;d ask some questions more specific to our plans. I hope you can help!

we will be needing transport from JFK to %26#39;wyndham%26#39; hotel - w 35th st. (we are in NYC april 6-9)

i like the idea of using dial 7 car service or even carmel to get me to and from the airport because the price seems to be quite similar to that of a taxi. i%26#39;ve read that to get to where i want, to and from the airport, it should be about $45 plus tolls ($5) plus tip (how much should our tip be?), is this correct? and then dial 7 says it should be $46 plus tolls and tip.

what are your thoughts? should we take a taxi? will the prices fluctuate using a taxi or will it always be a fixed price? (i don%26#39;t want any nasty surprises when we get to our hotel and get charged some exorbitant amount!) or should we take the car service which may be easier and just as cheap?

thankyou!!

(i can%26#39;t wait for our trip!)

The price taking a taxi will not fluctuate; from JFK to Manhattan the fare is a fixed $45, plus tolls and tip. Plan on a total of $60.

How many are in your party? If four or fewer, I think taking a taxi is simplest. After you collect your bags and deal with immigration (if needed), simply head to the official taxi dispatcher. Follow the signs. Do not accept a ride from anyone who might approach you offering to take you into Manhattan; they are operating illegally.

Thanks Rocco46 for your reply!

we agree too that taking a taxi would be easiest, and its good to know a %26#39;ballpark figure%26#39; about the price: $60.

thanks!

Tip is 15-20% of the fare ($45).
