Non Manhattan Hotels for NYC

Planning a trip to Manhattan for Christmas 2008 and can%26#39;t really afford to do 7 nights in central Manhattan hotels. Looking at Secaucus for 3 or 4 nights, maybe treat ourselves to 1 or 2 nights in somewhere fancy in Manhattan then a couple of nights somewhere else.

Where else would folks recommend for a base that%26#39;s not Manhattan - would have a car - maybe something north of Manhattan??

I would stay in Jersey City NJ. The Hyatt is on the Hudson River and very nice. I have been very lucky on priceline at getting 50% off.You can park your cor at the hotel an take the path train into NYC its a 15 min ride to 33rd st.Mare sure you go to Prestos rest. its a short walk from the hotel on warren st its byob and its great!!!!!!!
