Affordable Hotel close to 50th> and 5th ?

I want to be close to shopping, high end stuff!

But gosh, the rates at the Palace, Peninsula, St. Regis, Essexx are all too much. I will be walking a lot, so I%26#39;m trying to make the hike from hotel to stores as short as possible! Sofitel is too far down, I think. Hilton seems too far from 5th and Madison.

Am I being too picky?

The Elysee hotel is a great little hotel located on 54th Street between Madison and Park and so very covenient for those high end stores.

We stayed at the Doubletree Metropolitan the weekend before last. It%26#39;s on 51st and 3rd. We pre-paid through lastminutetravel.com for $116/night! Very convenient to the area you mention, walking distance to Times Square and a subway stop just outside.

The Hilton is actually only 1 block west of 5th and 2 blocks west of Madison. It will take you less than 10 minutes to walk to Madison Ave.

You%26#39;ve gotten good advice. The NY Hilton is only 1 long block from Fifth Ave. and the Warwick is across the street. The Elysee is a very good smaller hotel. Some other options:

The Intercontinental Barclay

Omni Bershire

Parker Meridien

Chambers

Shoreham (don%26#39;t take the smallest rooms here)

Lombardy

Park Lane

Blakely (some very nice 1 bedroom suites)

Helmsley Carlton House (dated decor but nice Park ave. location)

The Affinia 50 is only 2 blocks away at 50th and 3rd.

If you think ONE block is ';too far';, then yes, you are being way too picky.
