Show Recommendation

My sister and I are coming to New York mid May for 3 nights. We wanted to see Wicked but at $150.00 plus per ticket, we are looking for alternatives for a saturday night. We have seen Lion King, Mamma Mia, and Jersey Boys on Broadway, and the Donkey Show off Broadway. Can anyone recommend something to see that is fun and upbeat, that we can dress up for and have a great time?

Show Recommendation

Legally Blonde, In the Heights, Cry Baby.

Show Recommendation

Have you seen Hairspray? It%26#39;s very upbeat, and there are usually discounts available through broadwaybox.com.

Thanks for the quick reply. Cry Baby looks good, but there again, its 150 a ticket. We%26#39;d rather see something off or off off and use the savings elsewhere.

Actually, in rethinking your question, the only way to get cheaper tickets for any show is either at the TKTS booth the same day or with a discount from broadwaybox.com or similar. The problem with the discounts is many are not offered for a Sat. night performance. The ones currently listed are not for mid May so you%26#39;d have to wait and which are extended. There are lots of other shows you%26#39;d probably like (Hairspray, Ave Q etc.) I just don%26#39;t know which if any have discounts for a Sat. night. You could wait and go for potluck at the TKTS booth.

I%26#39;d reco Hairspray, Avenue Q and Celia.

I hear that In The Heights is also very upbeat. Legally Blonde also gets good reviews.

In the Heights is defintily an upbeat show (I haven%26#39;t seen the Broadway version, but the off-broadway version was verry good). Have you thought about Hairspray, Rent, Grease, Legally Blond, Xandau, or the new show Passing Strange?

There are plenty of discounts out there, as long as your not looking for tickets to Jersey Boys of Wicked. Most discounts don%26#39;t work on weekends, or at least Sat. nights, the rare exception in a discount to Xanadu check out: 鈥roadwaybox.com/shows/xanadu_nyc_tickets.asp Xanadu is a favorite of mine, much better than the movie. Kerry Butler and Cheyenne Jackson are just magical, as the NY Times said it%26#39;s ';heaven on wheels';)

Forget to say, look in the FAQ ';sticky'; at the top of this forum for this link:

If you are looking only at off-broadway shows, I had a friend visiting who saw Altar Boyz and thought it was really fun. I haven%26#39;t seen Awesome 80%26#39;s Prom but maybe that would be more your thing.

As for Broadway if you get a half price ticket, Passing Strange was a really uplifting, moving and fun rock musical.

I%26#39;ve seen Hairspray, Mamma Mia and Wicked...and by far it%26#39;s worth the $150 or more for a Wicked ticket. It was so good I%26#39;m seeing it again in May and December and I am not a wealthy person by any means, I just need my WICKED FIX!
