kids and hoho greyline tours

Love the idea of the hoho tours offered by greyline. There will be 5 of us with kids 12, 14, 16...everyone adult fares. Has anyone done this with kids? WHat did the kids think? I know hours upon hours of tours will bore them to death. I was thinking of getting the 48 hours pass and getting off and on and exploring an area, grab a bite to eat at a fun restaurant....Is there a better way to see the city in a few days, and get a bit of history?

Go to the FAQ here and read some trip reports from families with teens (scroll to the bottom).

I%26#39;m not a fan of the hoho%26#39;s b/c the guides aren%26#39;t very good, it%26#39;s open top buses so can get cold or hot or wet, and you never quite know when to hop off unless you%26#39;ve mapped out your plans in advance. That said, they%26#39;re running a special now for 2 for 1 tickets. I prefer the Nypartyshuttle.com tours with better guides that stay with you and work to make it interesting for the group they get. Less flexible but you get more out of it (imo). I think just riding around on a bus would be boring for the kids w/o some mental stimulation.
