Recommendations for Breakfast

Going to New York for the 1st time tomorrow for 5 days. Was wondering where%26#39;s good for breakfast. We are staying at the Barclay Intercontinetal, East 48th Street.

Recommendations for Breakfast

Here%26#39;s a place we like and it will give you that %26#39;diner%26#39; experience that many UK%26#39;ers seem to yearn for:

Scotty%26#39;s ($$$)

336 Lexington Ave, New York 10016

Btwn 39th %26amp; 40th St

Phone: 212-986-1520

Fax: 212-681-1544

You will be overwhelmed with all the choices for dining in NYC - check with the concierge at your hotel, ask him/her where they go to breakfast outside of the hotel.....

Enjoy, Poppa

Recommendations for Breakfast

*Ess-a-Bagle, on 51st and 3rd ave. I%26#39;ve never been to this location but their 21st location makes my favorite bagles ever.

*Bubby%26#39;s, North Moore and Hudson in Tribeca. If you are heading downtown one morning(it is not far from Ground Zero, Century 21. This is a very neighborhood(Tribeca) place for breakfast. It%26#39;s very crowded on weekends. If you do go here JFK jr%26#39;s loft was just up the street on North Moore.

*Balthazar, On Spring St in SOHO. They do a really simple continental breakfast in the early morning. It%26#39;s a beautiful room that is easiest to appreciate early when it is not so crowded. It would be a nice way to start a day in SOHO.

* Cafe Cluny, West 10th and West 12th st%26#39;s in Greenwich Village. They do a good weekend brunch. no reservations.

*Cookshop, 10th ave and 20th st. This is one of my favorite weekend brunch places, If you do go get the bread basket, They do take reservations.

We just stayed at the Barclay 2 weeks ago and had the same question. They have a nice buffet at the hotel, but the bellman, Richard, told us of a great little breakfast place I think was called the New York Diner. If you ask at the hotel, they%26#39;ll be able to tell you. There is also a little deli right across 48th Street where you can pick up a quick breakfast.

The poster above is correct about Ess A Bagel. If you don%26#39;t want a ';formal'; sit down breakfast kind of place then EssABagel is your best bet for a nearby bite. Bagel, lox and cream cheese is a classic NYC bkfst/brunch/lunch. If it isn%26#39;t too early, then order a Dr. Brown%26#39;s soda, either Cel-Ray or Black Cherry. They also have good whitefish salad. Other spots nearby, in or around Lexington in Midtown, are rather unimpressive for bkfst.

If you want to travel a bit then Pastis, in the Meat Packing District has a great bkfst/lunch/brunch, as does Les Halles, on Park Avenue South (not far from the hotel), Balthazar, Bubby%26#39;s, Sarabeths%26#39;s, uptown on Madison Avenue. There are lots of options. Just try to get out of midtown, if you can. Though there are a number of good dinner spots near your hotel. Have fun.

I recently had breakfast at the Ess a Bagel on 51st and 3rd Ave. and it was awesome! After eating an authentic NY bagel, the store bought ones will never be the same!

Next visit that is my first stop for breakfast!

Ess-a-Bagel, for sure, %26amp; Elite Food Bar, an excellent, local, cafe on 48th Street between 2nd %26amp; 1st (just past Libya House) for a more relaxing atmosphere %26amp; full breakfast menu.

And for those who staying at the Westin , what do you recommend for breakfast ?

It may be a bit far away from some of the hotels but I can%26#39;t wait to go back to the Red Flame on W 44th near the Sofitel. We ate there every morning and never faulted the place. Fresh orange, pancakes, quick service (not always the friendliest but then the place is always busy), good prices and a great selection of other foods including dinner.

The neighborhood ';Red Flame'; is John%26#39;s Coffee Shop on the southwest corner of 44th %26amp; 2nd. The diner mentioned may be Comfort Diner on 45th between 3rd %26amp; 2nd. Avra on Saturday-Sunday for their brunch, very reasonably priced, drink %26amp; live jazz included. Avra is on 48th Street between Lexington %26amp; 3rd. For really inexpensive, quick breakfast there are 2 deli-type places on 3rd Avenue between 48 %26amp; 47. Coffee shop on Lex %26amp; 48th Street is way over-priced.

Just returned ,first visit.we liked a place call Appelbies, think it is on 42nd west, couple of blocks down from hard rock.breaky finishes at 11am,really good prices.

Also American dinner, next to Toys R us down the street one building, little bit pricer, but really American and excellent food(recommended by a local)
