Italian restaurants open late in the city?

I%26#39;m a native NY%26#39;er but a little out of touch since moving 6 years ago. Coming back to NYC for business so I decided to mix in some pleasure.

I plan to attend an off broadway play on a Friday which starts @ 8 pm and would like to go to an Italian restaurant afterwards. I%26#39;m figuring I need a place that serves at least until midnight, I dont want to spend an arm and a leg and would like to go a place btwn the theatre district and in the Vill; any suggestions? I know that%26#39;s alot to consider but I%26#39;m trying to be as specific as possible.

All feedback is appreciated!

Thanks!

Coco~

A few possibilities:

La Masseria (48th b/t 8th and Broadway)

Orso (46th b/t 8th and 9th)

Osteria al Doge (44th b/t 6th and 7th)

Vento (14th and Hudson)

Macelleria (Gansevoort b/t Greenwich and Washington)

The best (and certainly most popular) late-night dining is probably Blue Ribbon, which serves all sorts of things until 2am (at Blue Ribbon Bakery) or 4am (at Blue Ribbon Brasserie). They are at Downing and Bedford and Sullivan b/t Prince and Spring, respectively.

Places like Lupa and Po in the Village technically stop serving at 11 (I think), but I%26#39;ve been there later than that and had no problem except the giant crowds. Be sure to check out menupages.com for menus, reviews, etc.

If the show is in the Times Square area, most of the restaurants there serve the after theater crowd. If the show starts at 8, it will likely be out by 10-10:30. Do you know about menupages.com? In addition to chosing location and type of cuisine, they have a drop down features menu that includes both open late and open 24/7.

What sort of place do you want? Northern or southern Italian? Upscale or small neighborhood place? Budget?

Menupages.com is fabulous, but the on-line menus are slightly behind inflation. However, gives you ballpark idea of prices.

Yelp.com is another great website and I find the reviews funnier.

Menupages can also be searched by ';serves late';, along with cuisine and neighborhood.
