I am 30 my mum is in her mid sixties, we aren%26#39;t the sort to eat at really fancy restaurants but love steak,Italian,Chinese. For Breakfast we don%26#39;t want to have it in the hotel so I need a deli or a diner that will be reasonable but close by.

Obviously this isn%26#39;t set in stone the weather might stop us doing somethings on certain days but since we don%26#39;t have that long I need some sort of plan.

Thanks for lookingxx

Where to get a Breakfast close to NY palace? **Generally finding a place for breakfast will not be a problem. There are many places near your hotel that would do.

Taxi/subway to Brooklyn Bridge (should we go early and have breakfast here?)**Purchase an unlimited 7 day metro card for both of you ($24 each) and use the subway to get to Brooklyn and then walk back to Manhattan. If you go to the %26#39;Know before you go%26#39; section on the left side of this forum, you will find very detailed directions on how to do this journey. It was written by GWB, our local subway expert and thousands of TA readers have done this journey...have your camera ready as there are so many photo ops!!

Walk across Brooklyn Bridge

Subway to China Town (walk round shops etc)

Lunch?**well, if you are in Chinatown, restaurants are everywhere, just chose the one that appeals to you.

Taxi/subway to Gershwin to Watch Wicked (we have tickets for afternoon preformance)** Perhaps if time is short, do the taxi to be safe. Remember there are many steps to get into the subway stations and only a few have an elevator to get down to the level you need. Once there, you may have to walk a bit to find your train. Is you mum in good physical shape to do this? If not, then by all means take taxis as you need.

Monday

Breakfast

Subway to Staten Island ferry terminal (riding the free ferry around Statue of Liberty)

Go to Century 21

Subway/walk to 14st -6 th Avenue shopping...that is quite a walk, best to take subway if you have bags to carry.

Macys etc

Bit of a lay in then do somethings we have missed,

Grand central station** remember, it it GC TERMINAL, GC Station is a post office.

Central Park ** www.centralpark.com for more info on sites you can%26#39;t miss.

Any other shopping ** I always refer people to the Nolita section of the city for some unique shopping. Nolita, ';North of Little Italy'; is Mulberry, Mott, and Elizabeth streets between Houston and Broome. Lots of nice shops in a walkable area.

Any further questions, be happy to ask. I am always weary of recommending restaurants as I have a different idea of what a good restaurant is.

Some places you might try for lunch in Chinatown:

New Green Bo (Bayard b/t Mott and Elizabeth)

Joe%26#39;s Shanghai (Pell b/t Doyers and Bowery)

Buddha Bodai (vegetarian Chinese; Mott and Worth)

Jing Fong (Elizabeth near Canal; you have to ride the escalator up to the second floor).

Also, be sure to stop at Pearl River Mart, a giant Chinese (well, pan-Asian, really) department store on Broadway b/t Grand and Broome. Lots of great stuff for sale here, some of it very cheap.

A suggestion for Sunday:

Leave your hotel and walk to 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue. Enter the Fifth Avenue subway station (if the entrance near Harper/Collins is closed on Sunday, cross Fifth and use the entrance on 53rd just past the side windows of Brooks Brothers and the entrance to the building that has ';Orrick'; written near the door.) Take the E (NOT the V) dowtown to 42nd Street. At 42nd, get off and wait on the downtown platform for either the C local or the A express,w hichever comes first (I am not 100% sure the C runs on Sunday, but it makes no difference; you can take either.) Ride that train to High Street in Brooklyn. Get off and exit towards the rear of the train. When you come up the escalator, walk straight ahead, keeping the street to your left. A short distance ahead is the Park Plaza diner, where you can get a reasonably priced diner breakfast including all kinds of things. When you leave, follow the directions found in the FAQ%26#39;s for getting to the Brooklyn Bridge from High Street station.
