Has anyone bought a sim free iphone in New York and will it work in ireland? My sister is graduating soon and I think it would make her day as they are not on sale here! Thanks

I think it%26#39;s better to ask the Irish this one! Or check with the store where you bought it.

SIM free iPhones are not permitted to be sold in the US. There is an exclusive contract between AT%26amp;T and Apple which restricts all US iPhones to AT%26amp;T.

While there are some shadier merchants offering iPhones that have been unlocked, be aware that they have no warranty (unlocking voids the warranty) and running any of Apple%26#39;s automatic updates, at any point, will likely turn your iPhone into a useless brick.

Apple has said they are taking a hard line against unlocked iPhones in the US.

True, nobody wants a dodgy phone. Not into this whole ';faux'; rogue trading thing anyway. Its a pity really apple cant take their finger out and supply us with such products. It would also cut down on black market trading. Nevertheless thank you for your help! P

Not sure about the whole illegal thing, but any iphone can be made sim free. There is a small hole at the top that if you insert a paperclip it pops out the sim card. After this you though all you have is an iTouch.

Buy an iTouch which is cheaper and has more ram.

They%26#39;ve just released them in Ireland today, Thank you all for your help.
