Info for Drive Rental Car Buffalo to Toronto?

Hello,

Has anyone had any difficulties in renting a car in Buffalo (buffalo airport), and driving across the border to Toronto? Does the rental company have to give you some type of paperwork the border patrol need to see?

I am a U.S citizen, is it true that for 2008, a birth certificate and drivers license is still valid for crossing the border back and forth from US to Canada?

From Buffalo Airport, Avis and Alamo/National allow one way from BUF to toronto. Enterprise, and budget are no go. Hertz is go too. You get ur rental papers which is enough (if customs at land crossing asks).

As far as I know passport is NOT required as the requirement has been pushed to mid 2009 (because of delays getting a pssprt). Google to find out more. This is a starting point:

Hope this helps.

Right now you need just a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID to cross the border. I came across yesterday using those documents.

Thanks for the replys. The 2nd message stated that Alamo/National allow one way from Buffalo to Toronto.

Does this indicate that there may be some type of problem re-entering the U.S from Toronto?

Thanks for the info

Not at all, one ways are based upon an agencies willingness to have a car left at another location. You will have no problem with a one way or return trip....
