Travel in New York - July

more info:

would stay 4-5 days and head home July 5th. Is it better to stay in Times Square or Manhattan? Would like to walk NYC for sites, and park car.

Any suggestions on hotels and must see sites/shopping? Was thinking of Double Tree hotel in TS b/c of location.

And your question is?

If you are asking if this hotel is in a good location I would say yes, and it gets good reviews.

You would be in the heart of Times Square and close to Central Park.

Times Square is in Manhattan.

Read these threads from the FAQ at the top of the page:

Also, note that the DoubleTree does not have parking. If you are driving you should reserve a spot in a garage. You can do that here: iconparking.com

Iconparking.com has garages all around manhattan that would probably be cheaper than using the garage at any hotel.

The Doubletree TS is popular with families but you can probably find cheaper options, also in central locations if you don%26#39;t have to be in Times Square. The Salisbury is a popular budget suite hotel with 1 bedroom suites that should be a lot less expensive just north of Times Square. Radio city apartments is another budget option with suites.

The Embassy Suites downtown in the financial district is also an all suite hotel, prob. $100/night less expensive and while not as central, offers free breakfast and is in a lovely area near the water and cool breezes for July.

If you plan on watching the 4th of July fireworks, one of the hotels at the South STreet Seaport would also be a good location. The Hampton Inn there is nice.

I notice you%26#39;re also looking into Cal. Are you trying to decide which to go to?

yes - deciding between NYC and CA - from the east to the west!!

First thoughts is that CA would be a lot of travel, tighter schedules to see the 3 or 4 cities...NYC could be a 4 day trip, easier to see sites (on foot, cab).

Def check out the FAQ. In it you%26#39;ll also find a collection of trip reports by families with teenagers. Steal in itinerary. Don%26#39;t bring the car.

If you do decide to come to NYC get a M to get a relative idea what is where etc......and also check your local library for guidebooks on NYC - while prices may be out of date the sights are in the same place and some of these have proposed itineraries made out for 2 - 3 - 4 days etc...
