Taxi for 6 ??

Hello,

Six of us booked for NY city, and flying in to JFK.

Can we get a taxi for 6? (3 couples)

Whats the best hotel for us all - we want good, but also clean and decent location. Cant seem to find any for under $350 per night (per room for 2 people)

We fly on to Vegas - staying at the Bellagio on a full lake view is only $249 per night !!

Is New York really that much more expensive.

On another note do you the think the prices will go down during the year - we go in Nov 08 - There is talk of a US recession, so does anyone agree that the prices will come down and we would be best booking nearer the time.

Thanks for any help - as ever it is always much appriciated.

Four is the maximum number of legal passengers in most cabs. Taxis line up at the airport and you%26#39;re expected to go to whichever one is in front.

Don%26#39;t.

Scan the line (queue) for the longest one there. Certain SUV taxis are out there in small numbers, looking to take more than four people.

As for hotels charging less than $350 a night, you clearly have not checked those outside of Midtown and the Financial District.

Google the following:

Cosmoplitan Hotel

Washington Square Hotel

Larchmont Hotel

Thirty-Thirty

Hotel Metro

Red Roof Inn 32nd Street

Super 8

And check these pages, NYwhiz and others give tips on online services that offer cheaper rooms in good hotels. I don%26#39;t; I%26#39;m a tourguide. I know the hotels themselves, and around 40 concierges.

Good luck!

Even the minivan taxis may not take 6 with luggage. If you have to travel together, order a car service like dial7.com Otherwise, be prepared to take 2 cabs.

Yes, NYC is that much more expensive than Vegas. It%26#39;s not an amusement park filled with hotels and casinos. There%26#39;s other business that goes on here besides tourism. Prices will vary drastically depending on exactly WHEN you%26#39;re coming. If you%26#39;re coming the first week in Nov. (and it can%26#39;t be changed) you have a serious problem since the NY Marathon is Nov. 2 and our Presidential election is Nov. 4. Hotels will be very very expensive. $350 will not buy a 4* hotel in NYC in Nov. YOu might be lucky to find some good 3*%26#39;s. The Excelsior is a very nice hotel across from the Mus. of Natural History and should fit your budget (unless you%26#39;re coming at Thanksgiving).

A recession here is not likely to drop hotel prices dramatically imo. It%26#39;s the weak dollar (vs. foreign currency) that%26#39;s driving prices up and more folks with GBP, Euros, Canadian dollars etc. come here for what they consider relative bargains. It is possible there may be some hoetl sales closer to your dates. I%26#39;d book something now that%26#39;s cancelable (which is common on US websites) and sign up for email alerts from travelzoo and any specific hotels you like.

Thank you for your excellent responses.

You have been much help.

Regards.
