taking a cab from Hertz to Rainbow Bridge

Hello:

I would like to visit both the American and Canadian side of the falls. I plan to rent a car in upstate NY and drive around on the American side first. I was wondering how easy it would be to return the car to the Hertz rental on Military Road, take a cab to Rainbow bridge, and just walk across to the Sheraton on the Canadian side? I would then rent a car on the Canadian side and drive around Ontario and fly back to NY from there, so I would like to avoid an international drop-off fee on the rental car. So how convenient is it to catch a cab on Military Road and how much would it cost to go to the Rainbow Bridge from there?

Thank you for your help!

Some observations:

There are 2 Sheratons on the Canadian side. Sheraton on the Falls is right at the end of the Rainbow Bridge, Sheraton Fallsview is about 2 miles from the bridge.

Flights from Toronto to NYC are much more expensive than from Buffalo to NYC. You might want to consider keeping the rental car for all your travels (most companies located near the border allow international travel) and returning to Buffalo for your flight home. It may involve a little more driving, but would eliminate 2 separate rentals and would definitely save on flight costs. Also, if you are using your personal auto insurance for coverage, be sure to check that you are covered for driving in Canada.

Thank you for the quick reply, fallsdude! Unfortunately, I have already made all my reservations, so I%26#39;ll have to fly out of Toronto. I had originally thought that the extra cost on airfare would be somewhat offset by the hotel parking fees in Toronto and by the time/hassle of driving back to the US. Also, my friend had obtained a reasonable quote for dropping a car across the border from his travel agent, but that request has now been denied. So we%26#39;re looking at alternatives. We need a car on the US side to visit friends and drive around for a couple of days first. And then I thought that rather than return the car at the Buffalo Airport and take a cab across the border, it would be cheaper to drop it off at the Hertz close to the Niagara Falls airport on Military road and take a cab from there. The distance is shorter, but my concern is whether cabs are readily available in that area.

That area of Military Rd. is very commercial (Outlet Mall, Fast food, etc), but not a walking area where cabs would be waiting anywhere, but you could easily call one from the Hertz Office. The fare shouldn%26#39;t be more than $20 to the bridge. They can cross the border (of course you pay the tolls and the waiting time), so that might be an option if you have a lot of luggage to get across.

Thanks again, fallsdude! Can%26#39;t wait to get a little R%26amp;R away from NYC!

It would probably be even easier to catch a bus from there. It is probably about 3 miles.

It is very easy to walk across the bridge. Make sure you have a passport or drivers license and birth certificate though. The bus line here is NFTA, I would go look at their site and see about the bus. I have never taken a cab but I cant imagine it would be more than $10. Maybe someone else will chime in with a better idea of price. I have a business here and if a cab driver stops in in the next few days I will ask him and post it.

Sorry I didnt know you meant the car rental near the airport. That is a few miles further so yes it would probably be closer to $20 as fallsdude said. The bus does pick up from the airport right there though.
