Subway and Street Map

Is there a Tourist Information Centre close to Times Square? i would like to buy a Subway and Street map and was thinking that these would be available at the Tourist info Centre.

Had a short 3 day break in New York this time last year (St Patrick%26#39;s weekend..Had a Great Time!!) and used the Subway once and nearly got lost.. Staying for 7 days this time so i want to get to see as much as possible and the subway seems to be the best option for getting around

Here is a great subway and street map to get you started. You can zoom in to get all the street names.

In addition to the map pacz points you to (and it%26#39;s a great one), here is the official MTA subway map:

Any good guide book should also have maps, both transit and city streets.

When you arrive, you can ask for a subway map from any attendant at the information booth in any subway station. They%26#39;re free!

Thanks pac for the link to that subway map, that is one I have not seen before. How nice to be able to see the exits...

The subway booths have both the Subway Map and the Bus Map, for free. The bus map is great, too, and shows more street detail. Subway rides and bus rides are both included with MetroCard.

I highly recommend getting a Not For Tourists book, or registering on their website for free and printing out their maps - for free!

Invest in a copy of John Tauranac%26#39;s Manhattan Block By Block: A Street Atlas ( $14.95) -- a guide to Manhattan streets, neighborboods, subway %26amp; bus routes -- with landmarks noted %26amp; some fun commentary. I see too many people struggling with the free maps...

Thanks all for the advice..

Hi Jem212, thanks for this.. Can you tell me where the best place would be in Manhattan to buy the above guide

Here%26#39;s a link to that guide ....

I%26#39;ll check local bookstores for you -- the independent book store where I bought my last copy is no more... The bookstore @ New York Public Library on 42nd %26amp; 5th may carry it, also Barnes %26amp; Noble stores. I know the Museum of the City of New York has it in their gift shop (%26amp; I highly recommend a visit...) If you can get a copy before your trip, you%26#39;ll find it so helpful for researching sights %26amp; setting up itineraries.

matraveller, if you have time, get it before you get to NYC (that Amazon link is correct) so you can do some research and get familiar with things now. That way, you%26#39;ll be that much ahead of the game when you arrive. Don%26#39;t wait until you get here to purchase one.
