Good, Safe location in New Jersey to stay as home base 4 NYC

There is a group of us (bout 6) who are traveling to New York in July to watch the SF Giants vs. Mets. We are late 20%26#39;s guys, and don%26#39;t need the nicest place to stay, but want something basic, clean, affordable, and CONVIENENT!

The prices in most of New York are insane, so we were looking to New Jersey (Jersey City, East Rutherford, etc) as these places might be alot cheaper. ANy suggestions on a nice safe mellow place in New Jersey that is CLOSE to a subway/train stop that would bring us into NYC? Also, does this train run all night?

Thanks!

Jersey City has a Path train that goes to 33rd Street though Hoboken may be a better area to stay at. From there you walk to 42nd Street and take the 7 train to Willetts Point Blvd. Here is a website that can help.

Another option can be to stay in Fort Lee, NJ which is right over the George Washington Bridge. This is a very nice area. From there you can take a bus to the 175th Street terminal, take the A train to 42nd Street and transfer to the 7 train. This route is longer but one nice activity is taking the A train to 190th Street and walk through Fort Tryon Park to the Cloisters Musuem which has awesome midieval architecture.

Hope these ideas help.

I%26#39;d say your best bet for a group of young guys is going to be staying in Hoboken, as there are plenty of restaurants and bars in Hoboken itself, and the PATH train is the most convenient way into New York.

However, you say ';mellow'; so you might want to consider a place like Edgewater. It%26#39;s a great small bedroom community hugging the NJ shore just under the cliff from Fort Lee, Homewood Suites gets some good reviews there. Driving and parking there might be a bit easier than Hoboken. For transportation you can take the bus or ferry.

Take a look at this thread from the FAQ on the NYC forum about staying outside Manhattan. Some good suggestions there:

Homewood suites is a great placeto stay, another option is Marriott Glenpointe in Teaneck NJ they have a bus that goes directly to the city.
