1.05pm yankees game, 9.45pm LGA flight

My fiance and I are travelling from Fort Lauderdale to New York on a 3-day trip this June. It%26#39;s a surprise for his birthday and he%26#39;s a big Yankees fan so, given that it%26#39;ll be his last chance to go to Yankee Stadium, I%26#39;d like to take him to see a game there.

The only one I can get tickets for is the Monday June 9th game, which starts at 1.05pm. Our flight leaves La Guardia at 9.45pm that night, and I%26#39;d guess we%26#39;d want to get to LGA by 7.45pm to check in.

I%26#39;ve never travelled through LGA before so I want to know if all of this is possible. I figure we could either go straight from Yankee Stadium to LGA but I don%26#39;t know how long this would take. When would we need to leave the game? And would we be better off taking the subway from Yankee Stadium back into Manhattan and taking a cab to LGA from there?

What do our NYC experts suggest? And thanks!

wendykroy...since you will not know when the game ends....it is not like theatre when you could call a car service and tell them to pick you up at a particular time......i think you are best off leaving your bags at your Manhattan hotel....and taking the subway from the game back there and then getting a cab or car service to LGA......since most games are not more than three hours i figure that you will be back at your hotel before 5pm...enough time to even have a little early supper before you get into your car or taxi.....don%26#39;t know where you are staying but it is usually thirty to forty five mintues to LGA and this will be a weekday night at the tail end of rush hour....a pick up at 7 should be fine

The game should be over by 5pm at the absolute latest, unless there is a rain delay. You can grab the subway back to your hotel to pick up your bags and then head to the airport. Definitely do not bring your bags to the game - they aren%26#39;t allowed. You really are only allowed a purse. Laptop bags typically aren%26#39;t even allowed.

from the website:

PROHIBITED ITEMS

No backpacks, briefcases, large purses, bags, coolers, glass or plastic bottles, cans, laser pens, video cameras, laptops, firearms or knives are permitted in the ballpark, and there is no claim check area to store any such items. Beach balls, blow horns and all other distracting noisemakers are also not permitted.

Diaper bags, small children%26#39;s backpacks, small women%26#39;s purses, and backpack purses will be permitted but are subject to inspection.

Where are you planning on storing your luggage, you will not be able to carry large bags into Yankee stadium so I suppose you will need to be aware of that issue. If you can check into your flight early you may want to check bags in at lga in the a.m. then take a taxi to yankee stadium and then take taxi back to the airport after the game thus avoiding another trip into manhattan. It depends on how early you can check in for your flight.

Thanks very much to everyone who%26#39;s responded, I%26#39;m very grateful.

You%26#39;ve reassured me that it%26#39;s definitely possible, so I%26#39;ve gone ahead and bought the tickets to the game; we%26#39;ll leave Yankee Stadium and get back to Manhattan on the subway, and that should leave us plenty of time to get a cab to La Guardia.

I think part of my problem was that, as a Scottish woman, I wasn%26#39;t really certain how long the baseball game would last. I%26#39;ve only been to one before and I seem to remember it was great but it was pretty long!

Thanks again, I%26#39;m really excited!

The only thing I would add is: When you go to the game keep track of how long it takes you to get there from the hotel. Then plan on leaving the game no later than a clock time that allows you to have enough travel time to get from the Stadium to your hotel, and then to LaGuardia. Even if it means leaving before the end of the game.

You might also add 15 or 20 minutes to the Stadium-to-hotel travel time to account for rush hour or any other crowds.

The game should end before you have to leave, but if it goes into extra innings or runs long for ANY reason, you will still be sure to make your flight by doing this.

I would also suggest that you get to the game earlish, This way BEFORE entering the stadium you can take note of exactly where the subway station is, where you have to go to be Manhattan bound ( make sure you have enough $$ on Metro cards,) etc etc. This way, if the game runs late and you push your deadline, you will know where to go, not have to stop and figure it all out. I don%26#39;t know Yankee Stadium--do they go out the same way they go in. If not, figure out where you will end up so you know how to walk?

Time is not a factor. A game lasts about 3 hours so it will be over around 4 PM. This leaves you more than five hours to get to LGA. You would have time to sightsee for three hours. Certainly plenty of time for a nice0 dinner in NYC.

Check with the hotel to see if you can leave your luggage. What to do with the luggage could be a problem.
