hotelsI think they use to stay at the grand hyatt and then moved to the westin time square. however, when i was at the hyatt a couple years back when the cubs were there some die hard baseball groupies said that the sox stay at the hilton - can%26#39;t wait to see if someone knows for sure -
Hi, we are having our first visit to New York at the end of June.(I am very very excited!!) Any suggestions for an apartment style hotel? We are there for 6 nights and would like to be close by to all the things to see.I had a look at the Aiffina 50.Any other suggestions? Many thanks
Try Radio City Apartments or the Bedford. The RCA is extremely popular. The Bedford is slightly outside the main sightseeing hub of Manhattan, but not bad.

we stayed at Affinia Dumont %26amp; Shelbourne Murray last June 07 the later being closer to Grand Central station, both had kitchens the latter with a much bigger kitchen/utensils, both with diy laundries,, the latter had a rooftop bar with great views of Chrysler %26amp; Empire Blds. Dumont was a much more modern decor, the latter a bit old but good enough (though I think they have done some refurbishing) - both had fantastic beds/linens/pillow menu both are Affinia hotels. Look up expedia.com.au for prices as they quote in Aussie dollars incl. taxes NOTE many sites dont include taxes or ring them direct to get a quote. Hope you find somewhere to stay leaving it a bit late to book imo. ps some use www.priceline or betterbidding? to try %26amp; get better prices.
if light sleeper or want views ask for higher rooms, just had a quick look thru expedia but not knowing your exact dates i just keyed in late june for 6 nights some discounted prices came up - surprising, as I heard that prices had gone up by 15% or more since last year - dont know what you want to pay but anything decent you may have to pay average $300AUD a night. The Salisbury seems to get good reviews here, note if you pay upfront you get a discount but then no possibility of cancelling or changing.
Also, look into bed and breakfasts in New york. some of them have kitchens you can use.

Decided to maximize trip so added 1 day on front end - will spend 1 night at Radio City Apts(Sat) then move to New York Hilton on Sunday. (May 24-25) What would be the best way to spend this day? I%26#39;m thinking we focus on Central Park for a quiet relaxing day.....Thoughts, my expert friends?
You could spend it the way many New Yorkers do.
1. Get up a little late, pick up a copy of the times and read it while having orange juice and fresh bagels. Then go for a walk (the Park would be nice).
2. Get up a little late, get dressed, go down to Chinatown and have dim sum at around 11 am, and then go for a walk (Going to DiPalo%26#39;s and picking up some sausage, cheese and bread for an informal dinner is nice). Take in a movie at some point.
3. Get up a little late, get dressed, and go to a nice non-touristy place in maybe the West Village or the Upper West Side for brunch. Then go for a walk in the nearest park, or just wander and look at people- people watching is a great thing to do in New York.

I have just come back from New York. When you get to times square it is extreamly busy and there is a souvenir shop on every corner and several in between.
Go up the side of the marriot hotel (times square) for half price show tickets and try out the M%26amp;M%26#39;s shop its a souvenir shop in itself.
If you like busy you will have a great time

Macy%26#39;s has a souvenir shop. Times Square is nothing but one big souvenir shop. Bloomingdales has a shop, too, I think.

Can you suggest places to eat near 70 Park Av - we will be staying 3 nights - I appreciate it is near Central Station and that there are places to eat there - in particular I was wondering about somewhere for breakfast - 2 children just love american breakfasts especially the pancakes.

There%26#39;s a place on 42 st. across from Grand Central called Pershing Square that%26#39;s good for breakfast. Junior%26#39;s inside Grand Central (famous for their cheesecake) serves breakfast.

The restaurant in your hotel, Silverleaf Tavern is supposed to be very good. They serve breakfast. For a special birthday breakfast, you might check that out. For pancakes, I think Penelope would be the best nearby.
Yes, you%26#39;d need a reservation at Balthazar for any night unless you%26#39;re prepared to wait a long time. In fact, make it ASAP. Artisanal is another French brasserie that%26#39;s closer to your hotel and they also have steak frites. Not sure it quite as good. Artisanal is known for the cheese selection (they do fondues too).
Hi there: We stayed at 70 Park Avenue and had breakfast there as part of our pkg. price. It really wasn%26#39;t good. They offered a buffet (soggy scrambled eggs, overcooked bacon, typical and expected breads and pastries, etc. ) that wasn%26#39;t special at all. Also the setting definitely said ';nighttime';.
Penelope%26#39;s was fine, but very crowded and we waited for a table for a breakfast that also just didn%26#39;t stand out. (Bad breakfast trip I guess!). We did really enjoy Pershing Square for lunch..great atmosphere for kids and big enough so the wait for a table was just a few minutes. Have fun. We loved 70 Park Ave.

Grand Central Station has a bunch of wonderful eateries inside of it. If you go downstairs there are tons of places to eat, most of them pretty good.
For a really hearty American-style breakfast, I would check menupages.com to see what is nearby. Zagat.com might be useful, too.

J and Rif you get a tourist magazine they normally have vouchers for J%26amp;R, i.e. if you purchase over 100 dollars you get 10% off! WE have used these on our last few visits. These NY magazines are normally available at the hotel.
You%26#39;re getting quite a discount with the dollar being as weak as it is anyway. Plus the prices here are normally better than you can find over the pond!
