Scottish bars/restaurants/parties for Tartan Day Parade

Hi there - first ever post from us. We fly from glasgow and land in NYC on April 5th (for 3 days)and have recently noticed that it coincides with the Tartan Day Parade. We would love to know if there are any nice Scottish restaurants or pubs that would be good fun on that day (or any bars that the ex-pat scots hang out in). We have Hairspray booked for 8pm so a pre-theatre restaurant or good bar for drinks after the theatre would be great. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi markandaila!

Been in NYC for Tartan Week before- you will really enjoy it (especially if kilts are involved ;)) Is it not a toatie wee bit like %26#39;coals to Newcastle%26#39; going into a Scottish bar?

Wear your Tartan proudly! But do it in any of the local bars! (but be prepared for the %26#39;what%26#39;s underneath???%26#39; question!

Have a great time!

Sounds like St. Andrews is your place. Pretty good pub food (wonderful BBQ ribs too!), and great atmosphere.

There%26#39;s an amazing post-parade party mid afternoon with sponsors pouring generously for a couple of hours (after that you pay for drinks but they are very much subsidized). You have to purchase the tickets in advance so check the official website. It%26#39;s @ a club on 34th Street. Another option is Angus McIndoe%26#39;s a very good restaurant in the theater district.

The Parlor Bar on west 86th street (and Broadway) on the upper west side is an Irish/Scottish bar. A Celtic supporters club is based out of there. Good food, beer, and they also have music/band downstairs.

Its less than 10 minute subway ride from times sq.

I second Bettina%26#39;s suggestion of St. Andrew%26#39;s Pub. I have a soft spot in my heart for the place because it was the very first meal I ever had in NYC. The Scottish bartender (in his kilt) was very cool and the salads and burgers were good too.

Many, many thanks for all your kind suggestions - I know it is a little like taking coal to newcastle (and normally we would try and embrace local culture) but we thought it might be fun. Its only for a few hours on our first day. We have lots of cool NYC touristy things planned already - S*x and City tour, The Rock, Hairspray, New York Knicks at MSG, dinner at Waters Edge to look forward to. Lots to cram in three dats, can%26#39;t wait.

Thanks again eveyone

Stout on 33rd between 6th %26amp; 7th is hosting a post-parade party. But you do have to buy your tickets in advance because of the crowds. I don%26#39;t think they are technically a ';scottish'; bar but they do have a lot of Scottish people there - it%26#39;s where I go to watch Scottish Rugby for the 6 Nations.
