Hi, I am travelling from Manchester to JFK, doeas anyone know if there are any good views on the approach to JFK? thanks
View from Plane
Hi My partner and I where seated on the left hand side and we got very good views!
View from Plane
Just having this conversation on another forum but we are flying into Newark. We went to JFK several years ago and I%26#39;m sure the best view was on the right hand side of the plane on approach to New York. You will find that everybody is stood up looking out as the view is amazing. I%26#39;m amazed the plane doesn%26#39;t tip over !!
The one time we flew into Newark the weather was so terrible you couldn%26#39;t see anything. Both times into JFK we were on the right hand side and had a really clear view of the NY skyline. You can never guarantee which side will get the best view as the direction you come into land/take off changes depending on the current weather conditions.
Unfortunately you just never really know what approach the plane will be taking.
Typically, coming from Europe, you will begin your descent over Connecticut or Long Island, both which offer gorgeous views (during daylight, of course) of the Long Island Sound, the mansions on either coast of the Sound, or on the Atlantic, the boats, harbors, etc.
My last time in from Europe, we had spectacular views of the southern shore of Long Island, including Fire Island, a resort community just south of the Island.
Whether you%26#39;re on the left or right side of the plane, you should have good views.
Views of the city can be found from either side - if you%26#39;re lucky. It really depends on what approach you take in. You could come in over Long Island and directly into JFK, in which case your best views will be from the right side.
Or, you could take a similar approach over Long Island, then circle out over Brooklyn, in which case both sides of the plane will get a view.
OK, I%26#39;ve overexplained and perhaps confused you...
We are landing to Newark from Europe and I think a remember a traveller here, suggesting only the Left Side of the plane for a great Manhattan view ! Am I right ?
Indeed Panos,
I was that traveller....the view of the Manhattan Skyline as the natives say is ';awesome'; ,the left hand side on approach to Newark, and the Right hand side on Departure.
Thank you, left side it is than !! Though it does make me curious, since I thought that all planes from Europe, approach from the North, thus on the way to Newark, Manhattan should be on the right side ! But I guess, there%26#39;s some manouevring(?) inolved or maybe the plane approaches from the Bronx side! Thanks again !
Simply put, planes will always try to land and take off into the wind (it gives them more lift). Consequently, the runways used on any one day and for that matter the direction into any single runway will change depending on the direction of the wind.
It is, therefore, literally, a toss up as to whether you will get a good view of the NY skyline.
Well thank you to everyone, i think i will try the.......... right! lol fingers crossed. Doesnt matter that much just cant wait to be there
