new york double decker bus tours are they good value

we are comin to nyc on 5 april and wondered what people think of the double decker tours .

new york double decker bus tours are they good value

I think they麓re great. We always try to go on a double decker tour in every new city we visit the first day or so. It麓s a great way to get an overview of the city and the sights, and at least the grey lines have superb guides that are a fountain of information and funny little stories, as well as they give you useful tips for how to get around the city :)

I say go for it.

Yes. But taking a little time to understand the subways and walking might make your trip more a part of the wonderful neighborhoods of New York.

Hey biker,

I think it%26#39;s great to do the double decker on the first full day you are there because it takes you around the Downtown Loop and you can get your bearings about where everything is. You can hop on and off all day so you are not just stuck sitting the whole time. It is a good value because you can literally use it all day hopping off and on. Then the rest of your trip (as the others suggested) take the subway and walk around the areas that you found on the tour that you want to spend more time in.

they are a good way to get overview if you haven%26#39;t been to town before.

Stay in midtown and downtown loops, go to other borough loops if you have extra time but not mandatory.

good luck,

thank you all for your most welcome advice .i will be getting on that bus .thanks again .

I agree with Ely. Do downtown first and get your bearings and other choices as secondary. You will be amazed at how you will feel like a pro getting around in a very short amount of time.

I have a question about the traffic for the hoho..we will get into Manhattan around noon on thursday (this coming July). I know everyone says to do the hoho early in your trip, but my question is, would there be less traffic on Saturday and Sunday? Or should we do the bus on Friday and Saturday? I just didnt want to spend my time sitting in traffic if there would be a lot less traffic on the weekend..

We are taking a cruise out of Bayonne,so will get into Manhattan (staying in the TS area) late thursday night and will have all day Friday and then leave Saturday night for NJ. Then get back on Thursday and leave on Monday afternoon.

We want to get our tickets to Mama Mia soon, so Id like to plan my days. Thanks for any help! Dot

You make a good point. Especially on a summer weekend, there%26#39;s a lot less traffic on a Sat. and Fri. afternoons can be very bad traffic as many locals get off work early and head out of the city for the weekend. We advise people to do tours at the beginning of their stay to ';get the lay of the land'; but in your case, I agree Sat. would be better. You could also just take an overview night tour on Fri. night and keep your days free to wander. NYpartyshuttle.com does a night lights tour as do other cos.

Thank you so much for a quick response! Dot
