We are looking for a hotel which is not considered moderne or trendy in design or decor but with old fashioned, traditionsl charm and warmth for our one week stay after the 4th of July.
As such, I have narrowed our choices down to the Comfort Inn at 129 W. 46th and The Bedford at 118 E. 40th. Both seem acceptable to our wants and both are within the same price range. However, we aslo want a property which would afford us a lot of very nearby small unpretentious neighborly casual restaurants within easy walking distance.
I think the Comfort Inn fills this bill but wish TA members to offer us their opinions and advice. Thank you.
Choose: Comfort Inn or Bedford
Neither! That Comfort Inn is in the Times Square area and while a serviceable hotel is absolutely NOT charming. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, but they%26#39;re not neighborhood type places, more for tourists and theater goers.
The Bedford is a tired charmless hotel that%26#39;s been covered in scaffolding for some time. It sits on a charmless street with very little to recommend it aside from it%26#39;s convenience to transportation.
Better options in midtown would be the Shelburne Murray Hill or the Murray Hill East suites, both near the Bedford but much nicer. The Beekman Tower hotel is another nice place in midtown near the UN in a much more residential area.
But based on what you describe, you might prefer being in more of a residential area like the upper west side or Greenwich Village. The Washington Square hotel in Greenwich Village should suite your budget (get a renovated room) and the Excelsior, th Beacon or the Milburn on the upper west side would also be nice.
Choose: Comfort Inn or Bedford
PS, check prices for all these on quikbook.com and also on the hotels%26#39; own websites.
Thanks, The Milburn looks like in my price range, The Beacon too high and The Excelsior stretching it...during research of these I ran into a place called The Imperial Court on I believe 79th. Can you comment on this hotel? Thanks for taking me up to this very nice sounding area away from Times Square!!
