Teddy bears in NYC?

As our trip is approaching, I was wondering if someone knows if there are any shops in Manhattan that specialize in collectible teddy bears (I mean the ';old fashioned'; teddy bears with jointed limbs, mohair fur, etc - the kind of bears that Steiff still produces, for example) , or if there is a toy store with a good selection of teddy bears? Also, any shops selling old/antique teddy bears or toys would be interesting. I have tried to search on Google, but surprisingly haven%26#39;t been able to find any teddy bear shops in New York. As a teddy bear lover and -collector, I like to pay a visit to these shops whenever I%26#39;m in a new city, and would love to find one in New York as well... :-)

Thank you again in advance!

Noticed a collection in FAO Swartz last August - quite pricey, so NY locals will probably have some affordable suggestions.

Here is a previous post on antique Steif bears and places that have them.

As Ferdia said, FAO Schwarz at 5th ave %26amp; 59th st. carries collectible Stief . The store Zitomer on Madison Ave. also carries a large Stief collection and it%26#39;s a fun store to peruse-everything from cosmetics and jewelry to toys and a pet boutique.

The Vermont Teddy Bear co. makes high quality, handmade bears here in the US. They sell online and have stores in Vt. and I think Ct. Not sure who in NYC would carry them.

Not of the same quality, but Build a Bear at 5th %26amp; 46th st. is part of a national chain buildabear.com/aboutus/鈥efault.aspx

And of course, you can drop in and see the original Winnie-the-Pooh and all of his friends that belonged to Milne%26#39;s son in their case at the Donnell branch library on 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth.

I realize this is a terribly old post - but I haven%26#39;t been to the forum for months. I just wanted to say thank you for all your help and kind advice around our trip last October. Unfortunately I didn%26#39;t have the time to do any teddy bear shopping this time, after all, but I did manage to see the original Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends in the Donnell Library. I think that - among many other things - is one thing that I wouldn%26#39;t have found out without tips from the local forum members. I%26#39;ll try to check out some of the toy stores on my next visit. :)

We had a wonderful trip - although much too little time! - and have decided to come back same time this year. :-) So... I%26#39;m sure I will be back on the forum with a bunch of new questions in the coming days/weeks/months. ;-)
