New York Airports

We are flying to New York and landing at JFK airport but have a connection at La Guardia airport, so we need to travel from one to the other. Didnt realise this when I booked it. Does anyone know how long it will take to get from one to the other and is there any form of transportation available other than taxi. If not how much is a taxi likely to be?

How much time do you have? The 2 airports are not that far apart--maybe 20 mins. in a cab; the problem is if your first flight is at all delayed (a very common occurence) it could mean you miss the connection anyway. Are both flights on the same ticket?

The Taxi Commission%26#39;s official estimate is $24-$28 to travel from JFK to LGA.

It is 10 miles from one airport to the other. Taxi will cost $30 to $35. There is a shuttle bus but considering the time constraints a taxi is the way to go. Trip will take anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic.

Bus leaves every 30 minutes - cost is $13 a person.

Also, what time of day are you making this connection? If it%26#39;s rush hour...

As someone who lives midway between the two airports--unless you are coming in during the middle of the night you will need at least 30 minutes to get from one airport to the other. That does NOT include getting into and out of the cab--just time actually spent leaving JFK, driving up the Expressway and getting into LaGuardia. How much time DO you have between your two flights.

Thanks for replies. The time we arrive is 11.05 at JKF and the connection from La Guardia is 14.45. Will 3 hours be enough? We do have a ticket with Delta which is straight from U.K to Fort Lauderdale, but not sure what happens if you miss the flight. We missed a flight in Milan and had to pay full price to get home, so a bit concerned about missing this one. Are taxis metered? Does anyone know what the latest check in time is for the flight from La Guardia to Fort Lauderdale?

Three hours should be fine unless there are flight delays.

And the taxi will be metered - it%26#39;s not a fixed rate. You can estimate the fare at www.worldtaximeter.com, but it varies depending on traffic.

Yeek! That could be a close one. Make sure you know WHICH TERMINAL at LGA you need to fly out of. Also, if your airline has an online check-in function... some of them will allow you to ';automatically'; check in for all of your flights, once you check in for the first leg.

just forgot -- in terms of it being tight, if you have to collect baggage, and then check baggage at LGA -- this is what I%26#39;m worried about, esp if your incoming flight is delayed.
