We would like to do the typical Grimaldi%26#39;s pizza, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, etc..I%26#39;m aiming for a Saturday evening. What would be a good itinerary for this scenario?
By the way, I am taking four teenagers along and just love the suggestions here for teenagers. I planned on giving my kids all metro cards and letting them loose on the city. I laugh and laugh reading some of posts..........
Suggestion for a Saturday itinerary that includes the BB
What%26#39;s the ';etc.'; part of your email (i.e., what else were you hoping to do that day)?
Most people who are walking across the bridge for fun prefer to walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan, so however you spend your day, you can go to Grimaldi%26#39;s first and then walk back. The bridge puts you out right by City Hall and in the Financial District. Not a great deal will be happening there at night on a Saturday apart from some bars and restaurants, but you could walk from the end of the bridge over to the World Trade Center if you are interested in seeing that.
And have you read this thread from the FAQ?
HOW TO GET TO THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE? Directions to the Brooklyn Bridge, Grimaldi%26#39;s Pizza and the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory at the Ferry Landing: Bring cash, an empty stomach, a camera and a good pair of shoes.

Thanks Crans. I am a travel agent and a great one when planning for other people. I am my own worst nightmare at planning my own trips. So anal retentive. I type everything out and even annoy myself!!
I%26#39;ve been to NY three times previously. My last trip to NYC I subwayed down to the trade site, paid my respects, lit a candle and said a prayer in the Church (what is the name of that church again?). I walked from WTC up through Greenwich Village, over to Chinatown and up up up Broadway. At some point I got confused and tried to head East to find Madison but kept missing it somehow. Anyway, I walked all the way up to about 26th street and finally was so tired I hailed a cab! My husband has never been to the city before and neither has my oldest son(he%26#39;s 18)
I absolutely adore the city, the people, all of it. I want them to have the best experience possible.
I already have my list of things to do/see. I am trying to group it all together by neighborhood. My Saturday will be free, therefore we can start off doing anything and end up in Brooklyn. We will have 1/2 a day on Good Friday. All Saturday, All Sunday, all Monday and we leave on Tuesday.
One other thing, someone mentioned going to church in Harlem where they have some of the best gospel singing. One of my teenagers thought we might get beat up and tossed out (lol). Is this really a good idea and if it is where would someone recommend? I dont%26#39;t want to be going to church as such an obvious tourist!
Thank you all.
The church you stopped in was probably St. Paul%26#39;s Chapel (http://www.saintpaulschapel.org/). And Madison Avenue starts only at 23rd Street, so if you were south of that it%26#39;s no wonder you couldn%26#39;t find it!
There are a couple of different gospel brunches. There%26#39;s one at BB Kings (in Times Square) with the Harlem Gospel Choir. That%26#39;s probably the most popular, and it%26#39;s pretty much all tourists in attendance, so no worries about feeling out of place. Others that are actually in Harlem include Copeland%26#39;s, Sylvia%26#39;s, and the Cotton Club. If you search the forum for ';gospel brunch'; you%26#39;ll find lots of previous posts w/good info and reviews.
What are your other days like? Weather Channel is currently calling for showers on Saturday, so that might be a good day for the Met or MoMA or the American Museum of Natural History if those aren%26#39;t on the rest of your itinerary. It could also be a good day for doing serious damage at Century 21, which will put you only a very short subway ride away from Grimaldi%26#39;s.
I think that near the end of our trip when we are staying near Center Park it would be fun to get the kids out into the park. The boys love basketball and running .I hear they may be able to get in on some pick up basketball games. Providing of course that the weather holds out!
I%26#39;m curious. Do strangers get beaten up in churches in Ohio on a regular basis, or does your son just think black people beat up strangers in their churches?
I understand you are trying to make light of it- but that was really offensive. Perhaps you should educate your son, since Ohio is not exactly known for its open-mindedness and lack of racism. Here, however, black people are polite enough to allow all kinds of people into their churches. Otherwise there wouldn%26#39;t be gospel tours.
Wow are you uptight or what? Actually, just so you know. In addition to the Korean foreign exchange student living with us, we also have an african american teenager who stays with us on a regular basis.
My point was that I didn%26#39;t want any CHURCHGOERS to get offended that we were in their church as tourists. It had nothing to do with anyone%26#39;s race. I wouldn%26#39;t want to offend anybody who is in church to worship, whether they are white or black, yellow or purple.
Now do you understand?
If the weather does hold out, I think your plan is a good one. You could really lose yourself for hours in CP--just giving them cell phones and letting them go is what I%26#39;d do as well. (If it%26#39;s just you and 4 teens, I imagine you%26#39;d be in a hurry to send them off by that point!)
If they are interested in trying their hand at basketball, here%26#39;s some info:
