Hello,
Have recently booked the Ferry to Liberty/Ellis Island and was given a 10.00 am time on the e-ticket to check in at security. What time is best to get to the Ferry Terminal?
Many thanks.

Based on my two vists the last two years (at the end of March on a Sat.) was 9:00 a.m. Even then there was a long line up (with tickets) to get on the Ferries. The line moved fast and it was sunny no big deal. Ithink we got on the 2nd ferry. Security is tight, they really check a few times in Terminal just before boarding. When you get to Park, check at booth, just to make sure you are in right line though. Enjoy. If you just get off at Ellis to do the tour, that alone took us till about 4pm to get home to Manhatten. If you get off on LIberty too, you will need even more time. So plan a full %26#39;day%26#39;. I just loved ELLLIS, so much to learn and our free tour guide was amazing.

Thanks for the great information, how long did you
stay at Liberty Island, we are really interested in Ellis Island, and don%26#39;t know whether to go straight there?
Thanks
Bump,
Sorry.
The boat goes so close to the Statue and it stops to let people off and the photo ops coming up to in and while sitting there and while pulling away are so great, I did not feel the need to get off the check out property around statue. I remember years ago you could book to walk up inside but dont know about that now. You may want to google that if it interests you. So, I would just stay on ship, make sure you ride upstairs near railing for good shots and then get off at Ellis..........we checked it out for a bit and then joined a 1 pm tour that was starting (free) but you could tip after. He turned out to be a great grandchild of an immigrant. When he got to the part of showing us the books for signing in, he showed us his great gran. signatures. He was a really good tour guide. Made us feel like we were the immigrants but really putting us in the mood and visualizing the place as it would have been if you had just arrived. How they divided you up depending on health etc. When we walked up into the great hall, the divided us up into a few groups depending on how we survived the steps. Then he told us why. this is how they determined TB in the newcomers. I hope all the guides are as good as he was for you. Battery Park is a nice place to be afterwards and not a far walk to Ground Zero if you have not done that. The Church is the actual thing to see as they have a lovely memorial done inside for the tragic event. The actual site is of course a construction area and there are too many tacky people taking advantage of it. The Church though has a beautiful memorial to it all and the photos of its yard all covered in ashes but nothing damaged. This chruch has been there since 1778 and has seen alot of history. Firehall Station 10 is right nearby too, the one that did the first response. WOOLWORTH building, city hall. In Battery Park is the statute or sphere that was in the garden of thecourtyard of Twin Towers and they planted it in Battery Park as a rememberance to the event. I really enjoyed walking about in that area. Then took a subway back to Midtown. Have fun, any more questions are welcomed.
Remeber, Ferry is chilly and windy.
Sparky011,
Many thanks for your tips.
Cheers.
